Pierre Guariche : a headline designer from the 1950′s
Pierre Guariche (1926 – 1995) was a prolific interior designer and architect during the post-war period and is now considered an icon in the world of French design. Functional objects with sleek lines are his trademark. The luminaires he designed in the 1950’s are identified with a simple G and a number in a surprisingly modern manner. Each model conceals a hub of light technology, guaranteeing optimal visual comfort.
The G1: a balanced luminaire
The G1 houses two light sources to allow for direct and indirect lighting, one of the designer’s great ideas. The long brass arm fitted with a counterweight swivels to bring the light into precisely the required position. The bulb inside the luminaire is concealed behind a white aluminium cover to prevent glare. This spectacular luminaire can defy gravity.
